Why I Love Editing, Part 1
One of life’s best experiences is the rare moment of reading when a person emerges from a book in pensive inspiration because the writing is truly delectable. The sentences are crisp and clear, expanding understanding and igniting curiosity. The transitions are seamless, and the words reverberate like music. Somehow, the language has been crafted oh so perfectly on a page.
As a reader, I deeply appreciate writing that exhibits a mastery of skills and techniques. Therefore, I apply this value in all editing projects, with the conviction that good editing can take excellent expression to the next step. My editorial manifesto is to help craft writing that leaves readers intellectually and emotionally grateful.
In contrast to the rushed life in which there is hardly time to savor each moment, editing is one activity that requires progress at a steady pace. Editorial work is a methodical process that commands complete concentration on the task at hand. Like slow food, slow editing offers wholesome benefits. This devotion not only serves writers and readers, but it also leads me to avoid being mired in my own thoughts and convert intense focus to promote fascinating discussions.
In our modern culture that celebrates publicity and self-promotion, it is refreshing to simply help others. Authors generously express their appreciation for the editorial work, but ultimately, the final product belongs to the authors and I am happy to stand in the background and applaud the accomplishment of a new publication. In that regard, I contribute my small part in helping writers achieve their long-cultivated dream to publish their valuable thoughts and ideas. That quiet happiness resulting from others’ success is immeasurable.
Every editorial project is a testament that a first draft will never be perfect, but with each edit, there is a chance to improve. This pursuit of excellence is highly motivating. Regardless of whether the written material is intended for business clients, a community of scholars, or literary aficionados, the raison d’être of this editorial service is to apply editing expertise of the highest quality that will allow the writing to sparkle on the page.
Editing is an act of commitment to celebrate good writing so that rare moments of reading delight are norms rather than exceptions. I am on a mission to strive toward that endeavor, one word at a time.
